1. Water-Blocking Physical Barriers

Source text يَجُوبُ إِيصَالُ الْمَاءِ إِلَى الْبَشَرَةِ، وَزَوَالُ مَا يَمْنَعُ وُصُولَ الْمَاءِ كَشَمْعٍ وَدَشْمٍ • The Core Requirement: For Wudu to be valid, water must directly contact the skin surface. • Removing Barriers: Any substance that isolates the skin and blocks water penetration must be completely removed: ◦ Wax (Sham'): Such as candle wax or cosmetic coatings. ◦ Grease/Fat (Dashm): Such as solid fat, oil coatings, or glue. • Tight Rings (al-Khātim al-Dayyiq): If a ring is too tight for water to seep beneath, it must be moved or rotated to ensure skin contact. • Dirt beneath the nails is excused. 2. Outer Surface Washing for Thick Beards

Source text يَجُبُ غَسْلُ ظَاهِرِ اللِّحْيَةِ الْكَثَّةِ فِي الْأَصَحِّ، وَلَا يَجُبُ إِيصَالُ الْمَاءِ إِلَى بَشَرَةِ اللِّحْيَةِ الْخَفِيفَةِ إِلَّا مَا انْضَمَّ • Thick Beard (al-Lihyah al-Kathah): A beard where the underlying skin is completely hidden from view by dense hair. ◦ The Ruling: It is only mandatory to wash the outer surface/hair of a thick beard. Saturating the hair roots and skin beneath is exempt. • Thin Beard (al-Lihyah al-Khafīfah): A beard where the underlying skin is clearly visible from the outside. ◦ The Ruling: It is obligatory to ensure water reaches the skin beneath a thin beard.

3. Hand Washing and Naming Allah

Source text يُسَنُّ فِي الْوُضُوءِ غَسْلُ الْيَدَيْنِ إِلَى الرُّسْغَيْنِ ابْتِدَاءً، وَالتَّسْمِيَةُ فِي ابْتِدَائِهِ • Sunnahs of Wudu: The text lists eighteen authoritative Sunnah acts that complete the spiritual reward of Wudu: ◦ Washing Hands: Washing both hands up to the wrists (al-Rusghayn) three times at the very start of Wudu. ◦ The Tasmiyah: Pronouncing "Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim" (In the name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate) at the beginning.

4. Using the Siwak (Tooth-stick)

Source text وَالسِّوَاكُ، وَلَوْ بِالْإِصْبَعِ عِنْدَ فَقْدِهِ • The Siwak: Using a wooden tooth-stick (Siwāk) to brush the teeth at the start or during mouth rinsing is a verified Sunnah. • The Substitute for Siwak: If a wooden stick is unavailable, or if a person has an excuse (like missing teeth): ◦ The Ruling: Wiping and rubbing the teeth/gums with one's wet finger (al-Isba') is valid and fulfills the Sunnah. • Timing: This act is performed during preparation to ensure total oral hygiene.

5. Rinsing Mouth & Nose Three Times

Source text وَالْمَضْمَضَةُ ثَلَاثًا، وَالِاسْتِنْشَاقُ ثَلَاثًا • Rinsing the Mouth (al-Madmadah): Drawing water into the oral cavity and swirling it thoroughly three distinct times, using fresh water each time. • Rinsing the Nose (al-Istinshāq): Drawing water up to the soft bone of the nose three distinct times using the right hand. • Fresh Water Rule: Each of the three mouth and nose rinses must utilize fresh water taken from the source. Sharing a single handful of water for both is against the optimal Sunnah.
