1. Exaggeration in Rinsing and Fasting Exemptions

Source text وَالْمُبَالَغَةُ فِيهِمَا لِغَيْرِ الصَّائِمِ • Exaggeration (al-Mubalaghah): In mouth rinsing, this means swirling water deep into the throat (Ghargharah). In nose rinsing, it means drawing water up to the top of the nasal bone. • The Condition: This deep cleansing is only Sunnah for a non-fasting worshipper. • The Ruling for Fasting Individuals: Performing Mubalaghah is disliked (Makruh) for a fasting person, as water can easily slip down the throat, invalidating the fast.

2. Beard & Finger/Toe Interlacing (Takhlil)

Source text وَتَخْلِيلُ اللِّحْيَةِ بِكَفِّ مَاءٍ مِنْ أَسْفَلِهَا، وَتَخْلِيلُ الْأَصَابِعِ • Beard Interlacing (Takhlīl al-Lihyah): After washing the face, taking a handful of water and running wet fingers upward through the beard from underneath the chin. • Finger & Toe Interlacing (Takhlīl al-Asābi'): ◦ Fingers: Interlocking the fingers of both hands together (Takhlīl) and rubbing. ◦ Toes: Using the pinky finger of the left hand to run through the toe joins, starting from beneath the foot upward.

3. Wiping the Entire Head Once

Source text وَاسْتِيعَابُ الرَّأْسِ بِالْمَسْحِ مَرَّةً • Encompassing the Head (Isti'āb al-Ra's): Wetting both hands, starting from the forehead, passing them all the way to the back of the neck, and bringing them back to the front. • Legal Distinction: ◦ Wiping a quarter (1/4th) of the head is Fard (obligatory). ◦ Wiping the entire head once is Sunnah. • No Repetition: Wiping the head must only be performed once; repeated head-wipes are disapproved as water waste.

4. Wiping Both Ears

Source text وَمَسْحُ الْأُذُنَيْنِ وَلَوْ بِمَاءِ الرَّأْسِ • Ear Wiping: Wiping both ears in conjunction with the head wipe is a verified Sunnah. • Mechanism: Use the index fingers to wipe the inner ear folds and the thumbs to wipe the outer/back surface of the ears. • Water Standard (Mā' al-Ra's): It is not mandatory to take fresh water for the ears; the remaining moisture from the head wipe on the hands is legally sufficient.

5. Performing Ablution in Sequence (Tartib)

Source text وَالتَّرْتِيبُ كَمَا نَصَّ اللهُ تَعَالَى فِي كِتَابِهِ • The Sunnah Sequence: Washing the Wudu limbs in the exact chronological order mentioned by Allah in the Quran: ◦ Washing the face. ◦ Washing both arms to the elbows. ◦ Wiping the head. ◦ Washing both feet to the ankles. • Ruling: If a person alters this sequence (e.g., washes feet before face), the Wudu is legally valid in Hanafi Fiqh (as sequence is Sunnah, not Fard), but they lose the immense spiritual reward of the Sunnah.

6. Continuity (al-Wala') and Intention (al-Niyyah)

Source text وَالْوَلَاءُ، وَالنِّيَّةُ • Al-Wala' (Continuity): Washing limbs sequentially without long interruptions, meaning washing the next limb before the previously washed limb dries (under normal climate conditions). ◦ Intentionally delaying Wudu until limbs dry violates this established Sunnah. • Al-Niyyah (Intention): Intending in the heart to perform purification or make prayer lawful. Pronouncing the intention softly with the tongue is recommended.
