1. Disliked Locations of Prayer

وَبِقَبْرٍ وَفِي الْمَقْبَرَةِ، وَفِي الطَّرِيقِ، وَالْحَمَّامِ، وَالْأَرْضِ الْمَغْصُوبَةِ • Importance of the Location: In Hanafi Fiqh, performing prayer in locations that risk contamination or disturb concentration is disliked: ◦ Al-Maqbarah (Cemetery): Performing prayer inside a cemetery, or directly on top of a grave, is disliked. ◦ Al-Tariq (Public Pathway): Praying on a public road or highway is disliked, as it obstructs the passage of people and distracts the worshipper. ◦ Al-Hammam (Public Bath): Praying inside a bathhouse or washroom is disliked due to the presence of ritual impurities. ◦ Al-Ard al-Maghsubah (Usurped Land): Praying on land that has been unlawfully seized or stolen is sinful and legally disliked.

2. Resisting Natural Excretions & Food Presentation

وَعِنْدَ مُدَافَعَةِ الْأَخْبَثَيْنِ، وَحُضُورِ طَعَامٍ تَتَوْقُهُ نَفْسُهُ • Mudafa'at al-Akhbathan (Resisting Urges): Performing prayer while resisting the severe urge to urinate, defecate, or release gas is highly disliked (Makruh Tahrimi). ◦ The Ruling: Worshippers should not commence prayer in this state. If this urge develops during prayer, it is highly recommended to cut the prayer to relieve oneself first. ◦ Juristic Reason: Retaining physical wastes destroys the necessary state of internal focus and humility (Khushu'). • Food Presentation: If a worshipper is hungry and appealing food is presented, they should eat first and then pray, provided the obligatory time window of the prayer is not about to expire.

3. Praying in the Presence of Pictures

وَأَنْ يَكُونَ فَوْقَ رَأْسِهِ أَوْ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ أَوْ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ أَوْ يَسَارِهِ صُورَةٌ • Prohibition of Images: Performing prayer in the presence of pictures of living creatures in a way that mimics idolatry is disliked: ◦ If the picture is above the worshipper's head (on the ceiling). ◦ If the picture is directly in front of the worshipper. ◦ If the picture is suspended to the right or left of the worshipper. • Excused Images: ◦ If the picture is so small that its features cannot be distinguished when placed on the ground (such as a tiny image on a coin). ◦ If the head of the living creature in the picture has been completely erased or defaced.

4. Tying Hair for Men & Praying Bareheaded out of Laziness

وَعَقْصُ شَعْرِهِ، وَصَلَاتُهُ حَاسِرًا لِلْكَسَلِ • 'Aqas al-Sha'r (Tying Hair): For men, performing prayer with their hair tied, braided, or gathered in a bun at the back of the head is disliked. ◦ The Sunnah: Men's hair should be left loose during prayer, allowing the hair to touch the ground during prostration. • Praying Bareheaded: ◦ If a worshipper prays bareheaded out of laziness, disregard for decorum, or casualness, it is disliked. ◦ Exception: If a worshipper prays bareheaded out of genuine humility, brokenness, and self-abasement, it is not disliked.

5. Praying in Work Clothes or Dirty Garments

وَالصَّلَاةُ فِي ثِيَابِ الْبِذْلَةِ... • Thiyab al-Bidlah (Work Clothes): Performing prayer in dirty, stained, or casual garments that are typically worn for manual labor or housework, and in which one would feel ashamed to appear before respected gatherings, is disliked. • Encouraged Attire: Since prayer is a formal audience before the Lord, wearing clean, dignified, and respectable clothing is highly encouraged. • If a worshipper has no alternative clothing and is constrained, praying in these garments is permitted without legal dislike.
