1. The Concept of Invalidators & Speech Invalidation

بَابُ مَا يُفْسِدُ الصَّلَاةَ وَهُوَ ثَمَانِيَةٌ وَسِتُّونَ شَيْئًا: الْكَلِمَةُ وَلَوْ سَهْوًا أَوْ خَطَأً • Mufsidat al-Salah: The specific utterances or actions that legally invalidate the prayer, requiring the worshipper to repeat it from the beginning. • Total Number: The author lists a total of sixty-eight (68) invalidating factors in Noor-ul-Idah. • The Rule on Speech: Uttering any meaningful word or speech in any language during the prayer invalidates it completely. • Decisive Application: This invalidation is absolute; whether the speech was uttered intentionally, forgetfully (Sahwan), or by mistake (Khata'an), the prayer is immediately broken.

2. Supplicating with What Resembles Human Speech

وَالدُّعَاءُ بِمَا يُشْبِهِ كَلَامَنَا • The Legal Rule: Supplicating during the prayer for matters that are typically requested from humans, and which are not established in the Quran or Prophetic Sunnah, invalidates the prayer. • Invalidating Examples: Uttering requests like: "O Allah, give me a silver coin" or "O Allah, feed me bread". • Non-Invalidating Examples: Supplicating using established Quranic/Hadith phrasings, or requesting things impossible to ask from creation (e.g., "O Allah, forgive me" or "O Allah, save me from the Fire"), does not invalidate the prayer.

3. Initiating & Replying to Salaam

وَالسَّلَامُ بِنِيَّةِ التَّحِيَّةِ وَلَوْ سَاهِيًا، وَرَدُّ السَّلَامِ بِلِسَانِهِ أَوْ بِالْمُصَافَحَةِ • Initiating Salaam: Initiating the Salaam greeting (As-Salaamu Alaykum) to someone during the prayer with the intention of greeting them invalidates the prayer, even if done forgetfully. • Verbal Response: Replying to someone's Salaam verbally during the prayer invalidates the prayer. • Physical Handshake: Shaking hands (Musafahah) during the prayer in response to a Salaam greeting also invalidates the prayer. • Gestured Response: If the worshipper merely nods their head slightly in response to a Salaam, the prayer is not invalidated, though doing so is disapproved (Makruh).

4. Weeping, Groaning, and Sighing Rules

وَالِارْتِفَاعُ بِبُكَائِهِ مِنْ وَجَعٍ أَوْ مُصِيبَةٍ لَا مِنْ ذِكْرِ جَنَّةٍ أَوْ نَارٍ، وَتَأَوُّهُ وَالتَّأَفُّفُ وَالْأَنِينُ • Worldly Weeping: Weeping aloud (producing audible letters or sounds) due to worldly grief, loss, or physical pain invalidates the prayer. • Spiritual Weeping: Weeping aloud out of fear of Allah, awe of the Divine, or remembering Paradise/Hell does NOT invalidate the prayer, as it constitutes praiseworthy humility. • Sighing & Groaning: Uttering sounds like "Ah" (Tawawwuh), "Uff" (Ta'affuf), or groaning (Anīn) intentionally invalidates the prayer. • The Exception: If these sounds escape from a sick person involuntarily due to uncontrollable pain, the prayer remains legally valid.
