1. Permissible Minor Movements during Prayer

وَلَا بَأْسَ بِنَفْضِ ثَوْبِهِ... وَلَا بِالنَّظَرِ بِمُوقِ عَيْنَيْهِ • Core Principle: Excessive movement (Amal Kathir) invalidates the prayer, but minor movements (Amal Qalil) that do not disrupt solemnity are permitted without legal dislike: ◦ Shaking Clothing: Lightly shaking or dusting one's garment to remove dust is permitted. ◦ Scratching: Scratching the body is permitted, provided it is done less than three times within a single unit of prayer (using a single hand). ◦ Looking out of the Corner: Glancing sideways out of the corner of the eyes (Mūq al-'Aynayn) without turning the neck is permitted.

2. Looking, Reading, and Killing Harmful Creatures

لَا بَأْسَ بِنَظَرِ الْمُصَلِّي إِلَى مَكْتُوبٍ وَفَهْمِهِ، وَقَتْلِ حَيَّةٍ وَعَقْرَبٍ • Looking at Text: Glancing at a written text in front of oneself during prayer and understanding its meaning in the heart is permitted and does not invalidate the prayer, provided one does not utter the words aloud. • Killing Harmful Creatures: If a dangerous snake (Hayyah) or scorpion ('Aqrab) appears in front of a worshipper during prayer, presenting a threat: ◦ Killing it during the prayer is fully permitted without dislike. ◦ Minor turning away from the Qiblah direction to strike it is legally excused. ◦ The worshipper is permitted to make up to two strikes to kill it.

3. Obligatory Cutting of Prayer: Saving Lives

يَجِبُ قَطْعُ الصَّلَاةِ بِاسْتِغَاثَةِ مَلْهُوفٍ، وَخَوْفِ تَرَدِّي أَعْمَى فِي بِئْرٍ • Juristic Framework: In Hanafi Fiqh, protecting human life and essential wealth takes strict precedence over continuing the physical performance of prayer. • Scenarios Where Cutting is Obligatory (Yajib): ◦ Istighathat Malhuf (Cry of the Distressed): Cutting the prayer is obligatory to respond to a distressed person crying for help, such as someone drowning or trapped in a fire. ◦ Saving a Blind Person: If a blind person is walking towards a well, pit, or cliff, and is in danger of falling, the worshipper must immediately cut the prayer to save them. • Failing to cut the prayer under these life-threatening scenarios is a severe sin.

4. Obligatory Cutting: Theft Prevention & Parental Calls

وَخَوْفِ ذِئْبٍ عَلَى غَنَمٍ، وَسَرِقَةِ مَا يُسَاوِي دِرْهَمًا • Obligatory Cutting for Protecting Wealth: ◦ Wolf Attacking Livestock: A shepherd seeing a wolf attacking their sheep must cut the prayer to drive it away. ◦ Theft of One Dirham or More: If a worshipper fears the theft of their clothing, shoes, mount, or any property belonging to themselves or others valued at one dirham or more, cutting the prayer to prevent the theft is obligatory. • Parental Calls: ◦ If a worshipper is performing a voluntary (Nafal) prayer and a parent calls them, they are permitted to cut the prayer to respond. ◦ If performing a Fard prayer, they should not cut it for a routine call; however, if the parent is in severe distress, pain, or danger, cutting the Fard prayer to assist them becomes obligatory.
