1. Sujud al-Sahw in Congregation

وَيَلْزَمُ الْمَأْمُومَ بِسَهْوِ إِمَامِهِ لَا بِسَهْوِ نَفْسِهِ • The Imam's Mistake: If the Imam forgetfully commits an error that necessitates performing the prostration of forgetfulness (Sujud al-Sahw), the follower (Muqtadi) is legally required to perform the prostration with the Imam. • The Follower's Mistake: If the follower commits a forgetful mistake individually while following the Imam (e.g., forgetfully omitting the Tashahhud), they are not required to perform Sujud al-Sahw, nor is their prayer invalidated. • Juristic Reason: The follower's bounden duty to follow the Imam (Iqtida') absorbs their individual minor errors; hence, they do not prostrate independently, preserving the unity of the congregation.

2. Latecomers and Sujud al-Sahw Rules

وَيَسْجُدُ الْمَسْبُوقُ مَعَهُ فِيمَا يَقْضِيهِ أَيْضًا لَا اللَّاحِقُ • The Masbuq (Latecomer): A worshipper who missed one or more units of congregation before joining the Imam: ◦ They must perform Sujud al-Sahw with the Imam, regardless of whether the Imam's mistake occurred before or after they joined. ◦ If the Masbuq commits a forgetful error while completing their missed units alone, they must perform Sujud al-Sahw at the end of their individual makeup units. • The Lahiq (Interrupted Follower): A worshipper who was present at the start of prayer but missed units during the prayer due to sleep or crowd-pressure: ◦ The Lahiq does not perform Sujud al-Sahw with the Imam for the Imam's mistake, nor for their own errors during their makeup units.

3. Stand-up Errors from the First Sitting

وَمَنْ سَهَا عَنِ الْقُعُودِ الأَوَّلِ مِنَ الْفَرْضِ عَادَ إِلَيْهِ مَا لَمْ يَسْتَوِ قَائِمًا • The First Sitting (al-Qa'dah al-Ula): If a worshipper forgetfully begins to stand up for the third unit of a Fard prayer, omitting the necessary first sitting: ◦ Closer to Sitting (Aqrabu ila al-Qu'ud): If they are still closer to the sitting posture, they must immediately return to the sitting. No Sujud al-Sahw is required of them. ◦ Closer to Standing or Standing Fully (Istawa Qa'iman): If they have stood up straight, or are closer to the standing posture, they must not return to the sitting position. • Rectification: They must complete their prayer normally and are legally required to perform Sujud al-Sahw at the end.

4. Errors in the Final Sitting

وَإِنْ سَهَا عَنِ الْقُعُودِ الأَخِيرِ عَادَ مَا لَمْ يَسْجُدْ لِلْخَامِسَةِ • The Final Sitting (al-Qa'dah al-Akhirah): If a worshipper forgetfully stands up for an extra unit (e.g., a fifth unit in a four-unit Fard prayer) without performing the final sitting: ◦ Before Prostrating for the Extra Unit: If they remember before performing the prostration (Sujud) of the fifth unit, they must return to the sitting posture, recite the Tashahhud, and perform Sujud al-Sahw at the end. ◦ After Prostrating for the Extra Unit: If they have already performed the prostration of the fifth unit, their Fard prayer is legally invalidated (Batalat) and converted entirely into a voluntary (Nafal) prayer. • Nafal Completion: It is recommended to add a sixth unit so that the voluntary units become an even-numbered set.

5. Doubt in the Number of Units Perform

بُطْلَتِ الصَّلَاةُ بِالشَّكِّ فِي عَدَدِ رَكَعَاتِهَا إِذَا كَانَ قَبْلَ إِكْمَالِهَا... وَإِنْ كَثُرَ الشَّكُّ عَمِلَ بِغَالِبِ ظَنِّهِ
