1. Purification of Carcass Hides

Source text يَطْهُرُ جِلْدُ الْمِيتَةِ بِالدِّبَاغَةِ الْحَقِيقِيَّةِ... وَبِالْحُكْمِيَّةِ... • Carcass Hides: In Hanafi Fiqh, the hide (skin) of a dead animal is impure, but it can be fully purified through Tanning (al-Dibaghah): • Two Types of Tanning: ◦ Real Tanning (Haqīqiyyah): Chemical processing using preserving agents such as salt, alum, or tanning leaves (al-Qaradh). ◦ Ruling Tanning (Hukmiyyah): Natural processing by exposing the hide to direct sun (tashmīs), wind, or dry soil until all putrid odor and moisture are completely eliminated. • Once tanned, the hide is pure, and it is valid to pray on it or use it.

2. Exceptions to Tanning

Source text إِلَّا جِلْدَ الْخِنْزِيرِ وَالْآدَمِيِّ... • Ruling on Human Skin: Tanning or utilizing human skin is strictly prohibited. • Tanning does not purify pig or human skin. The supplied commentary attributes the human exception to honour, not impurity.

3. Slaughter & Non-Flowing Blood Parts

• Islamic Slaughter (Dhakah): If a non-edible animal (such as a leopard or donkey) is slaughtered according to Islamic law: ◦ This proper slaughter purifies its hide immediately without tanning, rendering it valid for use (though the meat remains haraam to eat). • Parts with No Flowing Blood: Any part of a carcass that does not contain flowing blood running through it is legally pure even after the animal's death: ◦ Hair (Sha'r) and clipped feathers (Rīsh). ◦ Bones ('Azhm), provided they are free from grease or flesh. ◦ Horns (Qarn) and hooves (Hāfir). • The supplied commentary gives the ruling concerning sinew or nerve; this explanation is commentary, not the matn wording.

4. Purity of Musk & Civet (al-Zabad)

Source text وَنَافِجَةُ الْمِسْكِ طَاهِرَةٌ كَالْمِسْكِ وَأَكْلُهُ حَلَالٌ، وَالزَّبَادُ طَاهِرٌ تَصُحُّ صَلَاةُ مُتَطَيِّبٍ بِهِ • Musk: The musk pod (Nāfijat al-Misk) and the musk extracted from the musk deer: ◦ Are classified as completely pure (Tāhir), and eating musk is halal. • Civet (al-Zabād): A fragrant, oily secretion obtained from the civet cat: ◦ Is classified as pure, and performing prayer while wearing this fragrance is fully valid and correct. • The musk pod and musk are pure, eating musk is lawful, and civet is pure such that prayer while perfumed with it is valid.
