1. The Six Conditions of Execution

وَشَرْطُ أَدَائِهَا سِتَّةُ أَشْيَاءَ: الْمِصْرُ، وَالسُّلْطَانُ، وَوَقْتُ الظُّهْرِ، وَالْخُطْبَةُ، وَالْجَمَاعَةُ، وَالإِذْنُ الْعَامُ • Core Rule: For the Friday prayer to be validly executed and established (Shurut al-Ada'), six (6) conditions must be met: ◦ Al-Misr (The City): A city or large town containing markets and a governing authority. ◦ Al-Sultan (The Ruler): The head of state, governor, or their authorized deputy to lead the prayer. ◦ Waqt al-Zuhr: It must be performed strictly within the Zuhr time window. ◦ Al-Khutbah: Delivering a sermon before the prayer. ◦ Al-Jama'ah (Congregation): A minimum congregation of three adult men (excluding the Imam). ◦ Al-Idhn al-Aam (Public Access): Open and unrestricted public access to the mosque.

2. Rulings and Validity of the Friday Sermon

وَصَحَّ الْخُطْبَةُ بِشَيْءٍ مِنْ ذِكْرِ اللهِ وَلَوْ تَسْبِيحَةً أَوْ تَحْمِيدَةً • Minimum Validity: In the Hanafi school, if a person utters even a single phrase of remembrance of Allah (such as Alhamdulillah or Subhanallah) with the intention of the sermon, the condition of the sermon is legally valid (though doing so is disliked). • The Sunnah Method: ◦ Standing while delivering two sermons. ◦ Sitting briefly between the two sermons. ◦ Including praise of Allah, blessings on the Prophet, recitation of a Quranic verse, and supplications for the Muslim community. • The sermon must be delivered before the prayer; if delivered after, it is invalid.

3. Congregation Conduct during the Sermon

وَإِذَا خَرَجَ الإِمَامُ فَلَا صَلَاةَ وَلَا كَلَامَ، وَلَا يَرُدُّ سَلَامًا • Imam's Appearance: As soon as the Imam emerges and ascends the pulpit: ◦ All voluntary (Nafal) prayers and any form of conversation are strictly prohibited. • Rules of Silence: ◦ Worshippers are prohibited from responding to Salaam (Radd al-Salaam) during the sermon. ◦ Responding to a sneezer (Tashmit) is legally prohibited during the sermon. ◦ Even verbally commanding good or forbidding evil is prohibited; absolute silence and listening to the sermon is obligatory upon the congregation.
