1. Hadith Reports and Hadith Studies

Hadith reports are reports transmitted from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Hadith studies involve scholarly work related to preserving, transmitting, evaluating, and understanding those reports.

Merely repeating a report is not the same as evaluating its scholarly status; that requires relevant expertise.

2. The Work of Fiqh

Fiqh is the discipline of understanding practical Shari'ah rulings through a disciplined scholarly method. This work draws on Hadith reports and other recognized sources.

Hadith scholarship focuses on the preservation and understanding of reports; Fiqh focuses particularly on understanding practical Shari'ah rulings.

3. Related, Yet Distinct

Hadith reports are an important means of knowing the Sunnah and are used in juristic understanding, so Fiqh and Hadith are closely related. Yet the disciplines are not identical: Hadith studies concern scholarly work with reports, while Fiqh concerns understanding practical Shari'ah rulings.

Distinction does not mean opposition, and relationship does not erase their separate scholarly identities.
