Lesson

1. Introduction to Assimilation in Derived Doors (ادغام)

◦ Assimilation Doors: The eighth and ninth derived trilateral doors with Hamzat-ul-Wasl feature letter assimilation (ادغام). ◦ This lesson explains that these patterns are originally تَفَاعُلٌ and تَفَعُّلٌ. ◦ Under specific phonetic conditions, the initial ت is made silent, changed to match the first root letter (فاء کلمہ), and then merged (assimilated) into it. ◦ Since Arabic words cannot begin with a silent letter, an introductory Hamzat-ul-Wasl (اِـ) is prefixed, yielding اِفَّاعَلَ and اِفَّعَّلَ.

2. Bab 8 - If'aal / Iththaaqul (اِفَّاعَلَ)

◦ Vowel Pattern: This pattern is represented by اِفَّاعَلَ (with Tashdeed on the first root letter). ◦ Verbal Noun (مصدر): اِثَّاقُلٌ (Meaning: to be heavy/sluggish). ◦ Sarf Sagheer (Active): اِثَّاقَلَ يَثَّاقَلُ اِثَّاقُلًا فَهُوَ مُثَّاقِلٌ.

3. Bab 9 - If'il / Ittahhur (اِفَّعَلَ)

◦ Vowel Pattern: This pattern is represented by اِفَّعَّلَ (with Tashdeed on both the first and second root letters). ◦ Verbal Noun (مصدر): اِطَّهُّرٌ (Meaning: to purify oneself). ◦ Sarf Sagheer (Active): اِطَّهَّرَ يَطَّهَّرُ اِطَّهُرًا فَهُوَ مُطَّهِّرٌ.

4. Summary of the Connecting Hamzah Doors

• With these two assimilation doors, we complete all the derived trilateral doors that begin with a connecting Hamzah (Hamzat-ul-Wasl). • They brought a Kasrah-carrying Hamzat-ul-Wasl at the beginning so that initiating speech with a silent letter is not required (پس ہمزہ وصل مکسور در اول اوردند تا ابتدا بسکون لازم نیاید). • Next, we will study the derived trilateral doors that do not begin with a connecting Hamzah.
