Lesson
1. Introduction to Bab Dharaba Yadribu (ضَرَبَ يَضْرِبُ)
◦ Bab Dharaba Yadribu: The second regular (مطرد) verbal door of trilateral bare verbs. ◦ Vocal Signature: It has a Fathah (زبر) on the middle root letter in the past tense (ضَرَبَ), and a Kasrah (زیر) on the middle root letter in the present/future tense (يَضْرِبُ). This is the "a-i" pattern. ◦ Verbal Noun (مصدر): الضَّرْبُ or الضَّرْبَةُ (Meaning: to hit / to put forward an example / زدن وپدید کردن مثل).
2. Complete Sarf Sagheer of Bab Dharaba (ضَرَبَ)
Notice how the middle vowels systematically alter compared to Bab Nasara: ◦ Present Verb: يَضْرِبُ (Kasrah) vs. يَنْصُرُ (Dhummah) ◦ Imperative: اِضْرِبْ (starts with Hamzat-ul-Wasl with Kasrah because the middle letter has Kasrah) vs. اُنْصُرْ (starts with Dhummah) ◦ Dharf: مَضْرِبٌ (weight of Maf'il) vs. مَنْصَرٌ (weight of Maf'al).
3. Structural Comparison of Vowel Patterns
◦ Let us compare the singular forms of both doors side-by-side to understand the vowel shifts: ◦ Bab 1 (Nasara): نَصَرَ (a) → يَنْصُرُ (u) → اُنْصُرْ (u) → مَنْصَرٌ (a) ◦ Bab 2 (Dharaba): ضَرَبَ (a) → يَضْرِبُ (i) → اِضْرِبْ (i) → مَضْرِبٌ (i) ◦ Tracking these vowel patterns is the key to studying Arabic oral recitation.
4. Active vs. Passive Voice in Bab Dharaba
◦ The active voice is compared directly to the passive voice in the Sagheer table: FormMeaning Active Past: ضَرَبَ (He hit)Passive Past: ضُرِبَ (He was hit) Active Present: يَضْرِبُ (He hits)Passive Present: يُضْرَبُ (He is hit) Active Participle: ضَارِبٌ (The hitter)Passive Participle: مَضْرُوْبٌ (The one hit) ◦ The passive voice maintains the standard rules we studied in Meezan.
