كُلُّ بَنِي آدَمَ خَطَّاءٌ، وَخَيْرُ الْخَطَّائِينَ التَّوَّابُونَ (الترمذي) Translation: Every human being makes mistakes, and the best of those who make mistakes are those who repent. Key words Arabic word English meaning خَطَّاء one who makes many mistakes التَّوَّابُوْن those who repent Simple explanation - The door of repentance: Human beings are weak and may fall into sin. The best person is one who feels remorse and turns back to Allah immediately after sinning.

كَمْ مِنْ صَائِمٍ لَيْسَ لَهُ مِنْ صِيَامِهِ إِلَّا الظَّمَأُ، وَكَمْ مِنْ قَائِمٍ لَيْسَ لَهُ مِنْ قِيَامِهِ إِلَّا السَّهَرُ (الدارمي) Translation: Many people gain nothing from fasting except thirst, and many who stand in worship at night gain nothing from it except sleeplessness. Key words Arabic word English meaning إِلَّا except, other than الظَّمَأ thirst, remaining thirsty السَّهَر staying awake, sleeplessness Simple explanation - Worship without spirit: If a fasting person does not give up lying, backbiting, and quarrelling, the fast may amount to no more than thirst before Allah. In the same way, staying awake at night without sincerity, merely to be seen, is only sleeplessness.

مِنْ حُسْنِ إِسْلَامِ الْمَرْءِ تَرْكُهُ مَا لَا يَعْنِيهِ (الترمذي وأحمد وغيرهما) Translation: Part of a person's good practice of Islam is leaving what does not concern him. Key words Arabic word English meaning تَرْكُهُ his leaving it مَا لَا يَعْنِيْهِ what does not concern or benefit him رَعِيَّة people under one's care Simple explanation - Leaving pointless matters: A good Muslim does not waste time on idle talk, pointless arguments, or activities that serve no useful purpose.

أَلَا كُلُّكُمْ رَاعٍ، وَكُلُّكُمْ مَسْئُولٌ عَنْ رَعِيَّتِهِ (رواه النسائي والحديث طويل) Translation: Be aware! Every one of you is a caretaker, and every one of you will be questioned about those under your care. Key words Arabic word English meaning أَلَا be aware, take notice رَاع caretaker, guardian, shepherd مَسْئُول one who will be questioned, accountable Simple explanation - A sense of responsibility: Every person is accountable in Islam. A ruler is responsible for the people, a father for the household, a mother for the children, and an employee for the employer's property. Everyone will be questioned about these duties on the Day of Judgment.

أَحَبُّ الْبِلَادِ إِلَى اللَّهِ مَسَاجِدُهَا، وَأَبْغَضُ الْبِلَادِ إِلَى اللَّهِ أَسْوَاقُهَا (مسلم) Translation: The places most beloved to Allah are their mosques, and the places most disliked by Allah are their marketplaces. Key words Arabic word English meaning الْبِلَاد towns, places (singular: بَلَد) أَبْغَض most disliked سُوْق a marketplace (plural: أَسْوَاق) Simple explanation - Mosques and marketplaces: A mosque is a place of worship and remembrance, so it is most beloved to Allah. Marketplaces can become centers of heedlessness, deception, and worldly attachment, so they are strongly disliked by Allah.

الْوَحْدَةُ خَيْرٌ مِنْ جَلِيسِ السُّوءِ، وَالْجَلِيسُ الصَّالِحُ خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْوَحْدَةِ، وَإِمْلَاءُ الْخَيْرِ خَيْرٌ مِنَ السُّكُوتِ، وَالسَّكُوتُ خَيْرٌ مِنْ إِمْلَاءِ الشَّرِّ (البيهقي) Translation: Being alone is better than having bad company, and good company is better than being alone. Sharing what is good is better than silence, and silence is better than sharing what is evil. Key words Arabic word English meaning الْوَحْدَة being alone, solitude جَلِيْس companion, friend, one who sits with you السُّوْء evil, a bad person إِمْلَاءُ الْخَيْر writing or speaking what is good السَّكُوْت remaining silent Simple explanation - The effect of good company: The company a person keeps affects the person's character. If good company is not available, it is better to remain alone than to sit with bad company.
