Why a Scholar Is Superior to a Worshipper

According to the Hadith فَقِيهٌ وَاحِدٌ أَشَدُّ عَلَى الشَّيْطَانِ مِنْ أَلْفِ عَابِدٍ, why is one person with deep religious understanding harder on Satan than a thousand worshippers?

• Because his knowledge and understanding help him recognize Satan's schemes and protect people
• Because Satan can never come near him
