1. Surah Al-Qari‘ah · Ayah 1

ٱلْقَارِعَةُ ۝١ Sentence structure ٱلْقَارِعَةُ is a defined feminine nominative noun presented independently as the opening title expression. 3. Surah Al-Qari‘ah · Ayah 3

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْقَارِعَةُ ۝٣ Sentence structure وَ resumes. First interrogative مَآ is followed by Form IV أَدْرَىٰكَ, whose attached كَ is object. The second مَا introduces the object-question مَا ٱلْقَارِعَةُ. 4. Surah Al-Qari‘ah · Ayah 4

يَوْمَ يَكُونُ ٱلنَّاسُ كَٱلْفَرَاشِ ٱلْمَبْثُوثِ ۝٤ Sentence structure يَوْمَ is an accusative time adverb. يَكُونُ is incomplete; ٱلنَّاسُ is its nominative noun and كَٱلْفَرَاشِ its predicate phrase. ٱلْمَبْثُوثِ is a genitive adjective. Ayah summary On that day people will be like scattered moths in their panic. يَوْمَ — the Day when Grammar: A masculine accusative time adverb, annexed to the following clause. يَكُونُ — will be Grammar: A third-person masculine-singular incomplete imperfect. ٱلنَّاسُ — the people Grammar: A defined plural nominative noun of يَكُونُ. كَٱلْفَرَاشِ — like moths Grammar: Comparison كَ governs defined masculine genitive ٱلْفَرَاشِ; the phrase is predicate. ٱلْمَبْثُوثِ — scattered Grammar: A defined masculine genitive passive-participle adjective of ٱلْفَرَاشِ.

5. Surah Al-Qari‘ah · Ayah 5

وَتَكُونُ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَٱلْعِهْنِ ٱلْمَنفُوشِ ۝٥ Sentence structure وَ coordinates incomplete تَكُونُ. ٱلْجِبَالُ is its nominative noun, كَٱلْعِهْنِ its predicate phrase and ٱلْمَنفُوشِ a genitive adjective. Ayah summary And the mountains will become dispersed like carded wool of many colours. وَتَكُونُ — and will be Grammar: وَ coordinates; a third-person feminine-singular incomplete imperfect. ٱلْجِبَالُ — the mountains Grammar: A defined plural nominative noun of تَكُونُ. كَٱلْعِهْنِ — like wool Grammar: Comparison كَ governs defined masculine genitive ٱلْعِهْنِ; the phrase is predicate. ٱلْمَنفُوشِ — fluffed Grammar: A defined masculine genitive passive-participle adjective of ٱلْعِهْنِ.

6. Surah Al-Qari‘ah · Ayah 6

فَأَمَّا مَن ثَقُلَتْ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ ۝٦ Sentence structure فَأَمَّا opens a detailed contrast. Conditional مَن is followed by ثَقُلَتْ as condition verb; مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ is its nominative subject with possessive هُ. Ayah summary Then the one whose scales of deeds are heavy will have a successful end. فَأَمَّا — Then as for Grammar: فَ resumes and أَمَّا is a particle of detailed division. مَن — whoever Grammar: A conditional noun introducing the detailed condition. ثَقُلَتْ — are heavy Grammar: A third-person feminine-singular perfect functioning as the condition verb. مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ — his scales Grammar: A masculine-plural nominative subject; attached هُ is possessive.
