1. Friday Prayer: Status and Overview

صَلَاةُ الْجُمُعَةِ فَرْضُ عَيْنٍ... • Legal Status: Performing the Friday prayer (Salat al-Jumu'ah) is an absolute individual obligation (Fard 'Ayn) upon every sane, adult, resident, and healthy Muslim male who meets its prerequisites. • Juristic Significance: It is a prominent weekly congregational obligation established by decisive proof, substituting the Zuhr prayer on Fridays. • Exemption effect: Performing the Friday prayer completely satisfies and discharges the Zuhr obligation for that day. • In this level, we will study the eleven (11) conditions of obligation (Shurut al-Wujub) in detail.

2. Conditions of Obligation Part 1 (Gender, Freedom, Residency, Health)

يَشْتَرِطُ لِفَرْضِيَّتِهَا أَشْيَاءُ: الإِسْلَامُ وَالْبُلُوغُ وَالْعَقْلُ وَالذُّكُورَةُ وَالْحُرِّيَّةُ وَالإِقَامَةُ وَالصِّحَّةُ • The text presents the following essential prerequisites for Friday prayer to become obligatory: ◦ Al-Islam: Being a Muslim. ◦ Al-Bulugh (Puberty): Being post-pubescent (not obligatory for minor children). ◦ Al-Aql (Sanity): Being sane (not obligatory for the mentally disabled). ◦ Al-Dhukurah (Male Gender): Being a male (Friday prayer is not obligatory for women). ◦ Al-Hurriyyah (Freedom): Being a free person (not obligatory for slaves). ◦ Al-Iqamah (Residency): Being a resident (not obligatory for travelers). ◦ Al-Sihhah (Health): Being healthy (not obligatory for a sick person who cannot physically reach the mosque).

3. Conditions of Obligation Part 2 (Sensory & Environmental Safety)

وَسَلَامَةُ الْعَيْنَيْنِ، وَسَلَامَةُ الرِّجْلَيْنِ، وَأَنْ لَا يَكُونَ خَائِفًا مِنْ ظَالِمٍ أَوْ حَبْسٍ... • The remaining prerequisites for the Friday prayer's obligation are: ◦ Salamat al-'Aynayn (Sight): Having sight (not obligatory for a blind person). ◦ Salamat al-Rijlayn (Mobility): Having functional legs/mobility (not obligatory for a physically crippled or paralyzed person). ◦ Adam al-Khawf (Safety from Oppression): Being free from the fear of a tyrant or wrongful imprisonment. ◦ No Severe Environmental Barriers: Being free from natural or health barriers such as heavy rain, excessive mud, or severe weather that prevents travel to the mosque. • Only when all these conditions of obligation are met does Friday prayer become a binding individual duty.

4. Validity for Exempted Individuals

وَإِنْ صَلَّاهَا الْمَعْذُورُونَ أَجْزَأَتْهُمْ عَنِ الظُّهْرِ • The Ruling on Attendance: If individuals who are legally exempted from the obligation of Friday prayer (such as women, travelers, blind persons, or the sick) attend the mosque and perform the Friday prayer with the congregation: ◦ Their prayer is fully valid and legally accepted. ◦ It completely discharges their Zuhr obligation for that day; hence, they do not need to pray Zuhr separately. ◦ Preference: Although they were exempted, attending the congregation and performing the Friday prayer is highly virtuous and preferred for them.
