1. What Will We Learn in This Section?

● In this section, we will learn the detailed and practical use of pronouns attached in place of the muḍāf ilayh. ● We will learn the Arabic translations of all 20 sentences using attached muḍāf ilayh pronouns. ● We will practise replacing explicit nouns with the grammatically correct pronouns. ● We will thoroughly practise the rule of using a feminine singular pronoun when a non-rational plural is the muḍāf ilayh.

2. Practical Arabic Translation Exercise (Part One)

● Study the following translations and Arabic written forms in which the muḍāf ilayh is an attached pronoun: ○ His messenger: -> رَسُولُهُ (third-person masculine singular pronoun). ○ His servant: -> عَبْدُهُ | His wealth: -> مَالُهُ. ○ Their house, two people: -> بَيْتُهُمَا (third-person dual pronoun). ○ His two hands: -> يَدَاهُ (The nūn of يَدَانِ is dropped; the muḍāf is dual.) ○ Their deeds: -> أَعْمَالُهُمْ (third-person masculine plural pronoun). ○ Your religion: -> دِينُكَ | Your condition: -> حَالُكَ (second-person masculine singular pronoun). ○ Your Lord, two people: -> رَبُّكُمَا | Your children, all of you: -> أَوْلَادُكُمْ.

3. Practical Arabic Translation Exercise (Part Two)

● Let us practise more first-person and feminine written forms: ○ Our deeds: -> أَعْمَالُنَا (first-person plural pronoun). ○ My shirt: -> قَمِيصِي (The letter before the first-person singular yāʾ has a kasrah.) ○ My life: -> مَحْيَايَ | My death: -> مَمَاتِي. ○ My Lord: -> رَبِّي | My car: -> سَيَّارَتِي. ○ Our house: -> بَيْتُنَا | Our Lord: -> رَبُّنَا. ○ Your houses, all women: -> بُيُوتُكُنَّ (second-person feminine plural pronoun). ○ Your mothers, all of you: -> أُمَّهَاتُكُمْ (أُمَّهَاتٌ is a feminine plural; the muḍāf ilayh is a second-person pronoun.)

4. Practice Replacing Explicit Nouns with Pronouns (Part One)

● When the muḍāf ilayh is an explicit noun, replace it with the most suitable pronoun according to its gender and number: ○ Zayd's house: بَيْتُ زَيْدٍ -> بَيْتُهُ (Zayd is masculine singular, so ـهُ is used.) ○ The mosque's door: بَابُ الْمَسْجِدِ -> بَابُهُ (الْمَسْجِدُ is masculine singular.) ○ Ḥāmid and Maḥmūd's book: كِتَابُ حَامِدٍ وَمَحْمُودٍ -> كِتَابُهُمَا (dual pronoun). ○ The Muslims' house: بَيْتُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ -> بَيْتُهُمْ (third-person masculine plural pronoun). ○ Allah's sign: آيَةُ اللهِ -> آيَتُهُ (The tāʾ marbūṭah at the end of آيَةٌ changes to a regular tāʾ when a pronoun attaches.)

5. Practice Replacing Explicit Nouns with Pronouns (Part Two)

● Study these forms for a non-rational plural and mixed-gender muḍāf ilayh: ○ The doors of the mosques: أَبْوَابُ الْمَسَاجِدِ -> أَبْوَابُهَا (الْمَسَاجِدُ is a non-rational plural, so the feminine singular pronoun ـهَا is used.) ○ The house of Ḥāmid, Zaynab, and Maryam: بَيْتُ حَامِدٍ وَزَيْنَبَ وَمَرْيَمَ -> بَيْتُهُمْ (The masculine form is used because Ḥāmid is included.) ○ The treasures of the heavens and the earth: خَزَائِنُ السَّمٰوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ -> خَزَائِنُهَا (feminine singular pronoun because of the non-rational plural). ○ Fāṭimah's car: سَيَّارَةُ فَاطِمَةَ -> سَيَّارَتُهَا (Fāṭimah is feminine, so ـهَا is used.) ○ The girls' school: مَدْرَسَةُ الْبَنَاتِ -> مَدْرَسَتُهُنَّ (الْبَنَاتُ is a rational feminine plural.) ○ The deeds of the men and women: أَعْمَالُ الرِّجَالِ وَالنِّسَاءِ -> أَعْمَالُهُمْ.
